is important to me. It has always played a huge role in my life: I started chorus at the age of 6 through my church, and a year later enrolled in the Brooklyn Youth Chorus where I continued singing until 2020.
I studied vocal music in middle school and high school as well. It wasn’t until the latter when I realized how much music had shaped me into, well, me. It’s when I gained confidence in myself, and found out how passion guides you to the right places.
Admittedly, now I miss the bustle of chorus rehearsals and voice classes. When I can, I volunteer with Tufts Public Harmony, where we travel to assisted living facilities, hospitals, and shelters to perform free concerts.
What I’ve loved about music is its ability to emphasize or even
completely change a text’s meaning with tone, dynamics, or the
million other components of music that bring stories to life.
Similarly, writing has the power to amplify experiences,
taking it beyond a single moment, feeling, or thought.
Ever since my experience as a
Writing Works 360 Mentee at Girls Write Now
during the pandemic, I’ve found writing
to be a great outlet to understand my own feelings but also
understand and learn about that of others.
Below are pieces that give a sense of my voice and what I enjoy writing about.
